ORGANISERS of the 48th Sutton Veny Flower Show have hailed the event a great success after crowds turned out to see a blossoming display of entries over the weekend.
People from all over the UK took part in the annual competition to win one of 38 trophies in categories such as floral art, decorated cakes, preserves and homegrown vegetables, fruit and flowers.
There were also lots of children’s prizes up for grabs for challenges such as making a junk spacecraft, a vegetable villain, a rubbish rodent or designing a graphic for a hoody.
Children from Sutton Veny primary school performed and there were more than 15 vintage cars and motorbikes on display, ranging from unique vintage models to mid-20th century classics such as a Ford Cortina with 250,000 miles on the clock.
Julia Tuff, chairman of the committee said: “Children were kept entertained on the obligatory bouncy castle and there was also an inflatable slide, tall climbing wall, fun dog show and other attractions to entertain the crowds. We also had a large selection of stalls selling locally produced foods, cakes and craft.
“The committee would like to thank all those that supported the show as well as the huge team of helpers who keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.”
The group is now looking for new members to help keep the show going until its 50th anniversary in 2017.
Next year’s show will be on July 9.
