STAFF and players at Warminster Football Club have been left angry after their clubhouse was broken into twice in a week, resulting in £1,000 worth of damage.

Chris Robbins, club secretary, said: “It’s just terrible, a club of our size is relying on small sponsors and local advertising and our finances are critical to us.

“Most of our money comes from them or what we take on the gate and we shouldn’t have to spend that on something that it is totally and utterly unnecessary.

“It’s very disappointing, the committee is made up of volunteers and no one gets paid and there are two or three people who work really hard to keep the club going.

“I was just dismayed when I found the damage and can’t understand why people would do it.”

The first break-in at the club on Weymouth Street took place on July 16, when two cash boxes and the contents of a cash register were stolen, totalling approximately £280.

The second break-in occurred between 6pm on July 20 and 5pm on July 21 after access was gained via a front window, with burglars breaking two fire doors and a chair inside the building but not leaving with anything.

Chairman of the club, Phil Russell, said: “It’s a bit gutting really, we put in all that hard work during the summer and got the place up together for the new season.

“We just got it all done and repaired and we’re getting on with it really but it’s not the nicest of things.”
