POLICE have named the 73-year-old motorcyclist from London who was killed on the A303 near West Knoyle.

Jose Cullell Montasell, originally from Spain, was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle towards Mere when he collided with a blue Peugeot 406 on August 6 around 10.50am.

The driver of the car, a 73-year-old local man, had been travelling eastbound along the A303 before turning right and crossing the westbound lane and colliding with the motorcycle.

A further collision occurred with a grey Audi A6 being driven by a 44-year-old woman from Surrey who was also travelling westbound.

Emergency services attended but Mr Montasell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for six hours in both directions between Willoughby Hedge and Stourhead junctions to allow for an investigation to take place.

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses who have not made themselves known to contact the collision unit on Wiltshire 101 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
