THERE’S no place like the Warminster Athenaeum as a production of The Wizard of Oz will perform there next week.

The show from Oddity Theatre will see up to 70 performers from five to seventy-years-old take part in the legendary musical.

Tabitha Snell-McLellan, choreographer, said: “Luke Willmore, the director, will probably have chosen The Wizard of Oz to perform because it’s a classic and more so because it’s something that everyone can get involved with.

“It has encouraging and inspiring music which I think the children especially have enjoyed.

“Not that much has changed from the original performance but we are doing the musical so there will be some songs that were not used in the film that we will be performing.

“We will also have a real dog as Toto and the Tin Man’s suit is completely made from metal and there will be our own unique yellow brick road.

“Rehearsals have been running since the end of July and the children have loved learning the moves and some of them have never been on stage before so it’s opened their eyes to a new hobby.

“I think it’s also been a learning curve as well but the excitement is building with the realisation that all these people are coming to watch you perform.

“I don’t think the nerves have hit them yet.”

Taking place from September 16-20, tickets and more information can be found at http://www.theath.org.uk/EventsLister/indexNEW3.php?id=773&action=showdetails
