WARMINSTER residents have been left furious after vandals caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to at least eight cars.

The incident happened between 10.45pm and 9am on September 12-13 on Bread Street and Chapel Street.

A 21-year-old mechanic, who had his VW Golf parked on Bread Street, said: “I first knew about it was on Sunday morning and found that my offside door and rear doors all have scratches down them and it looks like someone has elbowed or punched a dent in the rear quarter.

“I’m looking at about £1,500 to get it all repaired and it’s just something that I can’t afford.

“Because I’m only 21 my insurance is already sky-high. I don’t want to put it up again so I’ll have to pay for it privately.

“There were about two or three other cars damaged down the road and everyone is really angry about it.

“A lot of people want cameras to be put up and aren’t parking their cars outside anymore but this sort of thing is a first that I know of to happen in the area.”

Warminster town beat manager, PC Sam Withey, said: “So far we have identified five victims with a total of at least eight vehicles damaged by someone scratching the panels with a sharp implement.

“We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.”
