WARMINSTER went swinging back in time at the weekend as the Civic Centre hosted a 1940s themed evening to launch a new Calendar Girls calendar.

The calendar features seven local women who stripped off to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Support and depicts them in roles common during the Second World War.

More than 50 people attended the launch party held at the Civic Centre on Saturday (October 24) which featured the BJ Big Band and traditional 1940s attire and dancing.

Andrea Pearce, of P & R Productions which organised the calendar and previously raised £5,500 with a production of Calendar Girls and with another calendar at the start of last year, said: “It went very well everybody loved the band and we had people from as far as Bath and Bristol who love the 1940s era come along.

“We had all seven girls who were in the calendar there and it was the first time they had seen it, we had it projected on a screen for people to see.

“Everybody loved it I think because it’s very unusual, it’s something different and it’s quite a novel idea.

“We’re hoping for a lot of support as it’s all very well producing the calendars but we need to sell them.”

The calendar, along with CD featuring classic songs from big band musician Glenn Miller, will be available at various points through the county over the coming weeks.

They will be sold at The Shires Shopping Centre in Trowbridge tomorrow (Saturday, October 31) from 10am-4.30pm, the Codford Artisan Fair on November 7 from 11am-5pm and at North Bradley’s Memorial Hall and Warminster Civic Centre on November 28.

The calendar will cost £8 and CD will cost £4 or both can be bought for £10.
