TEACHERS and staff at Sambourne Primary School in Warminster have been recognised for their fantastic work with children, after the school was given a Good Oftsted rating.

The inspection at the school, located on Sambourne Road and which previously had an Ofsted rating of Requires Improvement, took place on October 8-9.

Inspectors found that “pupils are looked after well and they feel safe”, there is “strong and decisive leadership by the headteacher, the senior leaders and governors” and that “teaching is consistently good”.

The report highlighted why the school wasn’t yet rated as Outstanding however, including that “the website is not up to date and not fully compliant”, “more should be done to involve parents in the life of the school” and that “teachers’ marking is inconsistent”.

Headteacher Cathy Chalk said: “This is a fantastic outcome for our school to have achieved and is recognition of the hard work that everyone puts into making Sambourne a place where children love to come and learn.

“I’m over the moon, we’ve been working hard for five years to turn the school around and it’s nice to have it recognised.

“It had a history for over 20 years as not been the best school and it’s been hard to shift that.

“We’ve improved the whole of the teaching and it’s about making learning fun and engaging.

Ian Lavery, chair of governor’s added: “This is a fabulous result for Sambourne and Warminster and I would like to thank all those involved for their hard work that has contributed to this outcome.”
