A MUM-OF-TWO was left horrified after discovering a pig’s severed head had been put inside a grit box in Warminster – but was left even more shocked when Wiltshire Council ignored her call to have it removed.

Zoe Bartlett claims that she rang the local authority last Monday to report the hideous discovery, but was told that it wasn’t a hoax line.

“I phoned up the council and asked to be put through to Environmental Health and when I told the man on the end of the phone he said “this isn’t a hoax line young lady”,” said Miss Bartlett, of Langholm Avenue, Warminster.

“I said it wasn’t a hoax but I could understand why they might think it was because it was a bit strange to say the least.

“We don’t know how long it had been there for but who in their right mind would do that.”

Miss Bartlett, who works at The Fox and Hounds pub in Warminster, was first alerted to the gruesome find at the top of Boot Hill by a customer last Monday (January 25).

“A woman came in and said her dog had been barking at the grit bin and when she opened it she found the pig head,” added the 27-year-old.

“My children haven’t seen it but there is Sambourne School just down the road and school kids were looking at it and taking pictures.

“It was disgusting and I can’t believe no one else wouldn’t have rang the council about it. It was going green.”

Warminster Councillor Steve Dancey was alerted to the problem by Miss Bartlett and believes the council should have taken her call seriously.

“She definitely did ring the council and we want members of the public to ring up and report these things,” said Cllr Dancey.

“They should take everything seriously.”

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said: “Our highway teams were notified about this on Monday and it has now been removed from the bin – we had no record of previous calls being made about this.

“We’d always encourage the public to use MyWiltshire system to report issues. By using MyWiltshire the public will receive confirmation the report has been registered and an update when action is taken.”
