PROGRESS is coming along nicely for Warminster’s poppy appeal, with around 500 poppies already knitted, which will be used to yarn bomb the town for the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

The names of all the men on the Warminster memorial and soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan over the past few years have been sewn into poppies which will cascade over the memorial bench in the town.

Permission has also been gained to make a cascade of poppies to cover the Chapel of St Lawrence, similar to the one at the Tower of London, and an animal memorial to made.

Organiser of the yarn bomb Lesley Fudge, who is the Royal British Legion’s voluntary Poppy Appeal Oganiser, said: “We’ve got about 800 poppies made altogether, with a target of around 3,000.

“Due to people using different shaped needles and different coloured wool, there’s a wide variety of poppies, which is going to make it a really nice sight in November.

“It’s still not too late to get involved. Poppies can be left in a box in Think Outside The Box, in the or the Civic Centre, where they will be collected and used for the display.”
