ROAD safety and congestion is still an issue for Chapanslade Parish Council after a pupil was hit by a car in January.

The council feels that the road going through the village is unsafe, especially for pupils at the school in the heart of the village, and that it is too congested due to parked cars.

Chairman of the parish council Phil Jefferson said: “The roads in the village are a mess to be quite honest, and it’s hard to see a suitable solution for them.

“Safety is an issue, especially after a little girl got struck by a car in January. The car wasn’t travelling very quickly but it was certainly a wake-up call.

“The other problem is congestion. Drivers get frustrated going to work through the village as it can take quite a while and there are often near misses between vehicles.

“We have a speed watch team in the village who keep an eye on speeding vehicles, so that isn’t a massive issue, but cars do tend to speed going in and out of the village.

“We recently sent out questionnaires to parents of pupils at the school asking how they think the roads can be improved and we got a lot of responses, so we’re looking through those suggestions now.”
