GLASTONBURY Festival founder Michael Eavis has confirmed that he is in talks with Longleat about staging the festival at the safari park in the future.

Speculation has been circulating over the past month after Mr Eavis, who has organised the world famous festival in Pilton since 1971, hinted that a move away from the Somerset site could be a possibility.

Talking to ITV News at the Royal Bath and West show today (Wednesday), Mr Eavis said: “I’m talking to Longleat everyday, so I hope we can come to agreement with them (Longleat) eventually.

“We haven’t done so yet, but they are quite keen.

“I want to move there in 2019, but we have got to get licensing, get the police on board, and all the local councillors at Salisbury District Council.

“So we have got a long way to go on this one.”

Mr Eavis went on to say that the owner of Longleat, Lord Bath, is behind the move.

The 80-year-old previously commented that it is becoming ‘very tricky’ to hold the festival at the same site every year amid concerns surrounding growing pressure on a gas pipe which runs underneath the site.

Mr Eavis’ daughter, Emily, has also outlined plans for new festivals in 2018 or 2019 in an interview with The Guardian.

The festival's co-organiser said: "We are going to do a show somewhere else with the same team behind Glastonbury but it hasn’t got a name yet and we’re still not entirely sure what shape it’s going to take,"

"For now we’re all [focused] on Worthy Farm. We’re not thinking too far down that road because we’re quite busy with this one at the moment!"

This year’s event will take place in Pilton between June 22 – 27 with headliners Muse, Coldplay and Adele.
