GONE are the days when Little Chef was thought of as roadside diner for families and business people to pop into on their way to holidays and meetings.

Owners Kout Food Group (KFG) have begun to give the brand a huge revamp, kick-started with a £500,000 investment in the service station just off the A36 in Warminster, which houses Little Chef, Burger King and Subway.

Following the revamp at the site, which has given it more of a 'restaurant' feel, manager Tom Newport has been enjoying life even more.

“It may sound a little bit cheesy but Little Chef has become part of me," he said.

“In my 10-year career here, working my way up from a crew member to manager, I have learned a lot and really enjoy each day.

“It’s a real privilege to be the first restaurant in the UK to undergo the redevelopment and I’m absolutely loving it so far. Staff have been boosted by it and customers are impressed with the changes.”

It isn't just the interior which has been improved as a result of the recent refurbishment, staff have undergone training and have been taught to talk to customers in a different way.

Instead of asking customers if everything is okay with their food, employees such as Leigh Perry now say 'you're going to enjoy this' as they present food, and workers high-five each other throughout shifts to keep morale high.

Mr Perry, 31, who has been working at Little Chef for five weeks, said: “It’s awesome working here. There’s a really good atmosphere and I look forward to coming to work every day.

“I have always liked working in hospitality because all of the customers are different, so you never know who’s going to come through the door. I want to get an NVQ in hospitality and work my way up from there.”

Little Chef bosses will evaluate Warminster’s relaunch to decide whether or not to roll out the changes to other restaurants across the UK.

Regional manager Michael Cox said: “We’ve had brilliant feedback so far at Warminster. This definitely marks a new chapter in Little Chef’s history.

“It’s one big team at Warminster and all the staff care for each other."
