WILTSHIRE Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious car crash on the A36 near Codford.

Police were called just before 9.30am this morning to reports of a crash near the junction with the A303.

A red Mini Cooper was travelling on the A36 from Salisbury towards Deptford when it appeared to drift into the opposite carriageway, for reasons still unknown.

It was then involved in a collision with a grey Vauxhall Insignia, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The female driver of the Vauxhall suffered serious leg injuries and was airlifted to Southampton Hospital.

The female driver of the Mini also suffered serious injuries.

The A36 is closed with delays in both directions between Deptford in Wylye and the B3083 Uppington Lane junction in Stapleford.

A diversion via the A303 and A360 is in operation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the red Mini Cooper shortly beforehand, is being asked to contact Sgt Steve Love at the Roads Policing Unit on 101.
