A MAN is furious with Selwood Housing after claiming he lives in squalor and nobody from the company is willing to help his situation.

Fred Stokes has been living in the Selwood Housing owned property in Alcock Crest, Warminster, for nine months and claims it has been a disaster since the day he moved in.

He says that it is plagued by mould and has a horrible smell which will not go away, which is making him ill as a result.

The 50-year-old said: “This place is absolutely horrendous.

“It stinks and there’s mould everywhere including on the ceiling and in the kitchen cupboards.

“The people who work at Selwood Housing don’t care one bit about my situation.

“Everyone is entitled to a good standard of living but it’s disgusting here. I’m losing weight because I can’t eat due to being so anxious.

“Things like this should not be going on in these modern times.

“They keep telling me I should clean the ceiling but I have done, thoroughly, and nothing changes – you can’t simply clean mould off a ceiling.

“I’m getting a bad chest and I’ve told them that but they’re not bothered. They shouldn’t have even rented it out in the first place, it’s not fit for anyone to live in.

“The bosses of Selwood Housing aren't happy to help people, in my opinion."

Selwood Housing is a charity which aims to improve homes and communities by providing affordable housing in Wiltshire and Somerset.

A spokesperson from Selwood Housing said: “We understand that there have been a catalogue of issues at the property and we are very sorry that Mr Stokes feels his issues are not being addressed effectively.

“We are committed to working with him to investigate his complaint and address the issues raised for a quick resolution that also allows us to learn from our mistakes.

“We have appointed the services of professional contractors to carry out an independent assessment of the property as well as leaving damp monitors so we can rectify the issues as soon as possible for Mr Stokes bringing the property up to our standard.”
