WILTSHIRE Police were contacted by a resident in Damask Way, Warminster, at 9am on Monday (July 11) to say that their neighbour was having unnecessary work carried out on his home.

Officers arrived and quickly established that the man had been told there were loose tiles on his roof which had to be fixed at a price, but this was not the case.

The two men were arrested and are currently on bail, pending further enquiries.

Warminster Community Policing Coordinator, PC Charly Chilton, said: “Never agree to have work done by someone just passing by. If you think work needs to be done, get at least two quotations from reputable companies.

“Never sign anything on the spot – but if you do, remember you have a seven day cooling off period during which time you can cancel and receive a full refund.

“Always shop around for the best price and be wary of ‘special offers’ or warnings about your home.

“Never hand over cash or sign anything and talk to someone you trust, such as a relative, friend or neighbour, for a second opinion.

“If you think a bogus caller has called on you, report it to the police immediately on 101 and to Trading Standards.”
