WARMINSTER Town Park was transformed into a summer fete on Friday (July 5) to raise money for Lucy's Day Out.

Between 11am and 4pm, the scout base in the corner of the park played host to live music, cake stalls, a barbecue and tombola to raise £500 for the Salisbury-based charity, which sends families with ill children on day trips to a location of their choice.

One of the organisers, Amy Wrigglesworth, from volunteering group National Citizen Service (NCS) , said: “It was such a lovely day and everyone had a fun time, which is just what we wanted.

“There were lots of fun activities on offer and plenty of cake for everyone, which was of course a big hit.

“We were absolutely delighted with the £500 we raised.

"It's such a brilliant charity and does so much towards helping terminally ill children."

Lucy’s Day Out was set up following the death of Lucy Page in 2010, who asked her family to set up a charity in her name to help other children before she died.

The popular girl was just six when she developed an inoperable tumour in her head. After initially successful chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she relapsed in March 2009 and lost her battle shortly after.

Lucy's mum, Julie Godwin, said: "The guys did an absolutely amazing job at arranging the fete in such a short space of time.

"The money they raised will fund a whole day out for a family including travel, accommodation and anything else they need.

"Some of the most popular requests for days out we receive are Alton Towers, Legoland and slightly less obvious ones such as helicopter rides.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to Amy and the rest of the team for their hard work."
