STAFF at the Garston Veterinary Group in Westbury had the purrfect afternoon on Monday (August 7) with a raffle and cake sale to raise money for Cats Protection, a charity which rescues and rehouses stray cats and improves their wellbeing, held on International Cat Day.

Jenny Scott, receptionist at the Westbury animal surgery, said: “It was a fun afternoon and was very well attended, especially considering we only had a few hours to squeeze it in between treating animals.

“All of the cakes were made by staff at the surgery and the raffle prizes, which were donated by pet owners and staff, were very popular.

“So far we have raised £120 with the raffle and that total is still rising. The money will go towards helping cats who are desperately in need of love and attention. We are delighted to hit our target for Cats Protection and we will now decide on another charity to raise money for.”

Cats Protection also offers neutering and microchipping services for stray cats.

Pam Coward, coordinator of Cats Protection’s Frome and District Branch, said: “We’re really grateful to Garston Vet Group for raising this money which is going towards the cost of a new cat pen.

“We currently have a long waiting list of cats needing to come into care so this will really help. We also urgently need more fosterers to help us look after the cats until they are rehomed so, if anyone out there can help, please feel free to contact us on 07733 390345.”

Garston Vets in Westbury have raised a total of £2,000 for Cats Protection, including the money raised from the raffle.
