PLANS in are in place to make this year's Corsley Show the biggest ever.

The star attraction of this year’s event, which takes over the village on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29, will be Jonathan Marshall with his flying falcons and dancing horses.

Mr Marshall has earned his reputation as one of the world's leading display falconers over the last 30 years and has provided falconry shows at some of the largest outdoor events in the UK.

One of the organisers of the show, Rob White, said: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s event, there’s a vast array on offer for everyone of all ages.

“We have tried to get as many local people as possible involved in running the show this year to keep that community feel.

“Jonathan Marshall and his flying flacons will be a real spectacle, he’s appeared on tele quite a few times and we’re really excited about his performance.

“In terms of trade stalls, there’s plenty this year selling artisan food and products.

“As always, there’s loads to do for the kids, too. They can have a go at archery with the Frome Archery Club, compete in sports events and lots more.”

This year, Smash Bash Piano Trash will be making its debut, which will see local hammer-wielders crush pianos into pieces small enough to post through a letter box.

The triumphant team will win a coveted trophy and a barrel of beer to quench their thirst.

More local teams will also take part in a tug-of-war competition, which made a comeback last year after a long absence.

Winners of the team contests will raise a glass to Milk Street Brewery of Frome, who have donated two kegs of beer as prizes.

There will be live music from the Frukes in the Beer tent and from Frome Ukele Band, who play classic tunes in their own style.

The Vintage Vehicle Show, sponsored this year by White Horse Motors Ltd, is also an annual big hit, and will be held early in the afternoon on the day.
