A WARMINSTER woman had her long locks completely shaved off on Monday in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mandy George, 37, raised a total of £265 by letting her friend loose on her hair with a pair of scissors and a razor, and was compelled to do so after learning of the work Macmillan carries out.

Mrs George, who lives just off Portway Lane, said: “Macmillan don’t receive as much publicity as some other cancer charities but the work they carry out is vital.

“Cancer affects people in so many different ways including financial, emotional and physical strain. It can be very difficult to live with for the person and their family but the support Macmillan gives is brilliant.

“They support the nurses who help people suffering from cancer and the people suffering themselves, which is why it’s a fantastic cause to get behind.”

Brave The Shave is a nationwide initiative launched by the charity which encourages people to have their head shaved off to raise money and awareness for cancer sufferers.

Mrs George added: “I heard about Brave The Shave when I was scrolling through Facebook a few weeks ago and the advert popped up on my timeline.

“I’m not really into running so thought that braving the shave would be a better option, as I’ve always wanted to raise money for the charity in some way.

“I hit my target before I had the shave but to be honest I just want to raise as much as I can.

“I’m expecting a few odd looks as I walk around town but it’s only hair – it will grow back.”
