AN animal lover completed a gruelling walk in aid of a charity which rescues animals in need last week.

Jonny Saunders walked 112 from his hometown of Warminster to Brighton Pier with his friend, Nathan, and girlfriend, Ashley, to raise money for Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

By completing the challenge, the trio have so far raised £800 and hope to hit their target of £1,000 soon before donating it to the charity.

Mr Saunders, 29, said: “It was really good fun but obviously quite exhausting at times too.

"On Tuesday afternoon we played a game of I spy for six hours straight to try and keep us entertained - when you're walking along a main road there are only so many things you can see, so it was the easiest game of it I have every played.

"We also got really badly sunburned too which we didn't expect to happen. When I put my sunglasses on yesterday it felt like I was cutting my forehead with a knife, but I guess it could have been raining which would've been worse.

"The only breeze we had was from lorries driving past us when we walked along the main road - some of them were probably a bit too close but luckily none of us got hit.

"Reaching Brighton and sleeping on a bed rather than a field under some tarpaulin was such a relief.

"We feel very proud to have completed it and we are now thinking about what we can do for our next adventure."

Mr Saunders' love of animals comes from his pet rabbit he had when he was younger, which cured his boredom as he was forced to stay indoors a lot of the time due to suffering from seizures.

The keen artist, along with his two walking companions, started the walk at 9.30am on Monday, August 29 and completed it on Thursday, taking 49 hours in total.
