THERE’S certainly no case of radio silence at Warminster Community Radio as the station celebrates being shortlisted for three national awards.

The trio of nominations for this year’s Community Radio Awards puts the station in the top five from across the UK in each category.

Station Director Barry Mole, who founded WCR and has been at the helm of the organisation for over 20 years, has been recognised for his dedication by featuring on the Volunteer of the Year shortlist.

The station’s production of Christmas Carol has been shortlisted in the Arts and Creative Radio category while the WCR General Election Debate, hosted by Station Manager Andrew Robinson, has also been recognised as one of the top five live events from the year.

Mr Mole said: “I am very pleased that, as we head towards our second five-year term of broadcasting, we have yet again received national recognition of WCR’s high calibre contributions to the community.

“The station consistently aims high in its level of work. I am especially humbled by my own nomination for Volunteer of the Year, which I have previously won in 2005.”

News of the nominations coincides with the station unveiling a new refurbished studio, leaving Civic Centre Studios with three full broadcast suites, which the station hopes will improve its production capabilities even further.

Mr Robinson, Station Manager, said: “I am delighted that Warminster Community Radio has been shortlisted in three very different categories.

“It demonstrates the range of broadcasting we provide and the dedication of all our volunteers.

“As organiser and host of the election debate, I am very proud that the event has been recognised.

“It shows that community radio really does have the power to give a voice to the public and to hold local leaders to account.”

In June, Warminster Community Radio was given a grant of £50,000 by Warminster Town Council to keep it on the airwaves for another five years.

The Community Radio Awards take place on Saturday, September 10 at Birmingham City University and also includes categories such as Station of the Year and Community Development Project of the Year.
