KINGDOWN School pupils who have been hard at work holding fundraising events alongside completing their schoolwork presented a cheque for £1,000 to Make-A-Wish on Monday (October 17).

The Warminster school’s house captains have organised a series of fundraising activities for pupils to take part in over the past year during school time and hit their £1,000 target last month.

A representative from Make-A-Wish visited the school on Monday morning to thank the pupils for their hard work and to collect the cheque.

Emily Easton, a house captain in Year 13, said: “We have organised a range of fundraising activities for the whole school to take part in and we were delighted to raise £1,000 for the charity.

"A few people at Kingdown have been affected by cancer and the charity does such nice things for children who need it the most so it felt like a good one to raise money for.

“All of the fundraising has been in school and has involved things such as cake sales, non-school uniform days and other fun events.

“We also set form groups challenges which involved giving them £10 to spend and seeing how much they could increase it by with their own fundraising activities.”

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children who are fighting life-threatening conditions whether it’s starring in their own film, meeting a celebrity hero or anything else they would like to do.

Regional fundraising manager for Make-A-Wish, Del Arthur, said: “Make-A-Wish is hugely grateful to Kingdown School for fundraising for us yet again.

“They have donated the proceeds of their events to us each year since 2011 and that money will help us grant more magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people who are fighting life-threatening conditions.”
