A MAN has died after a Wiltshire Police officer fired a Taser at him.
Police officers were called to a house in Warminster late on Wednesday night after they had reports of a man who had harmed himself and was threatening to harm others around him.
After officers arrived at the scene, a knife was recovered.
During police interaction with the man, Taser was deployed and he was restrained.
The man became unresponsive, and officers performed CPR. An ambulance was then called but the 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at around 12.30am on Thursday.
Paul Mills, assistant chief constable of Wiltshire Police, said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with his family at this most tragic and difficult time, who are being supported by a specialist officer.
"In line with legislation, Wiltshire Police immediately referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
"Local officers are meeting with members of the community and increased patrols in the area are ongoing to offer reassurance at this difficult time."
