A WOMAN from the Warminster area has been shortlisted for a national charity award after raising £15,000 for blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan.

Allison Dufosee, 51, from Deverill Valley, is in the running for Individual Fundraiser of the Year at the 2016 Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards. She began her fundraising journey after her husband was diagnosed with myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, and received two stem cell transplants.

“If it wasn’t for Anthony Nolan, my husband wouldn’t be here," she said.

"No hill I come up against on my bike is too steep when I think of it that way.

"When me and my friend Sallie wear our Anthony Nolan t-shirts, we hopefully get more people to notice and find out more about their wonderful work."

Mrs Dufosee has taken part in a number of cycling challenges with her friend Sallie Taylor, raising £15,000 between them.

"Last year, as it was a special birthday me and Sallie rode to Paris. It was quite tough; we trained around the Wiltshire area so at least there were a lot of hills.

"We also did the Great South Run, and I haven't always been a runner.

"I think it was more about raising awareness of the illness and of Anthony Nolan and the work they do, than raising money."

The team at Anthony Nolan has thanked Mrs Dufosee for her efforts.

Chief executive Henny Braund said: “Allison is an incredible supporter of the charity and we’re delighted that she has been shortlisted for this award. The challenges she has undertaken are no mean feat, and she’s shown incredible perseverance and bravery.”

The awards ceremony takes place on November 22 at the House of Commons.
