MEMBERS of Warminster Military Wives Choir visited patients at two hospitals on Tuesday to spread festive cheer by singing carols.

Around 10 singers visited the Longleat Ward at Warminster Hospital before heading to Horatio’s Garden at Salisbury Hospital.

The choir sang 12 carols to patients at the two hospitals including their new single, Home for Christmas, and other classics including Jingle Bells and Silent Night.

Choir member Angeline Bowser said: “It was a really beautiful day. We do it every year as our way of giving something back to the community.

“We visited people who are emotionally and physically vulnerable and don’t have any friends or family to visit them, which is of course very tough at Christmas.

“As well as singing carols we had a chat with patients and shared jokes with them.

“There was a lady at Warminster hospital who hasn’t spoken since being placed in the ward but amazingly she joined in with one of the carols. Doctors said it was the first time they had heard her voice.

“There was also an elderly chap with Alzheimer’s who joined in with singing. It was really emotional and brought a tear to my eye.”

The choir recently featured in a Christmas album called ‘Home for Christmas’ along with other military choirs from across the UK, which was released at the end of November.

Mrs Bowser added: “Our motto is ‘we will never let you fall’ and we proved that when we met a lady who was visiting her military husband at Warminster Hospital.

“We exchanged numbers and she texted me in the evening to say how much it meant for us to visit and that we really cheered her up. We put her in touch with Calne’s choir and she’s going to meet up with them in the near future.

“Christmas can be difficult when a loved one is in hospital, I know that all too well, so it’s always nice to know that there are people who are looking out for you.”
