CHAPMANSLADE’S resident auctioneer Dennis Barnard was the star of Antiques Road Trip last Tuesday (January 24), displaying his 37 years of experience to thousands of BBC1 viewers.

In the episode, Raj Bisram and James Braxton go on a buying spree on the Isle of Wight before taking their purchases along to Coopers & Tanner in Standerwick Market for auction.

This is when Mr Barnard shows off his auctioneering skills of nearly 40 years, stealing the show with his unique style of getting potential buyers to part with their cash while holding an ongoing conversation with Mr Braxton and Mrs Bisram.

Mr Barnard, vice-chairman of Chapmanslade Parish Council, said: “It was a really enjoyable experience.

“One of my friends said I looked like I knew what I was doing after watching the episode and I said I should hope so after doing it for 37 years.

“I definitely think Antique’s Road Trip is one of the best antiques programmes on tele, but then again I would say that after being on it.”
