ST GEORGE’S Primary School raised nearly £800 for Julian House at the weekend by taking part in the annual Big Bath Sleep Out.

Two teachers, a pupil and her dad from the Warminster school braved the elements on Friday night to join around 200 others in sleeping under the skies in Alice Park, Bath.

By taking on the challenge and facing the wind and rain, reception teacher Victoria Davies and Year 5 teacher Kate Saunders, as well as pupil Thea and her dad Matt, raised £763 for the charity.

Mrs Davies said: “This year pupils in Year 3 are supporting Julian House because they were really inspired by a representative from the charity who told them about their work at Christmas.

“It was good fun but freezing cold and very wet. We didn’t have a tent or any luxuries, just a sleeping bag and a thick coat.

“Talking to people about what had inspired them to take part was really great and I’m glad we did it.

“In the morning we were all very grateful that we had a warm home to go back to. Homeless people don’t have that comfort – it’s definitely something we take for granted.”

Last year the 230 people that took part in the outdoor sleepover raised an impressive £37,000.

The sponsorship money helps Julian House run its various projects in and around Bath, supporting over 1,000 different homeless and excluded men and women every year.

Each class at St George’s School is raising money for a different charity this year.
