LONGLEAT has been taken over by a swarm of giant insects as part of a new feature.

Staff have been busy carrying a group of oversized insects into the heart of Longleat’s hedge maze.

The giant animatronic bugs are part of ‘Marvellous Monsters’ - a new feature opening at the site this Easter.

“Marvellous Monsters is one of the most ambitious exhibitions we have staged here,” said Longleat’s Steve Mytton

“All the animatronic insects are based on real life bugs and we have just scaled them up to be the size of cars and vans.

“Our aim is to showcase just how incredible and awe-inspiring these creatures are but also to try and dispel some of the myths and misunderstandings about them.”

The attraction celebrates the world of insects and aims to highlight the softer side of bugs and the vital role they play in keeping our planet alive.

In addition to the hedge maze the gigantic insects, including a 15-metre long millipede and a six-metre tall caterpillar, have taken up residence across the whole estate.

Visitors will also be able to watch bug shows and enjoy close encounters with a variety of living insects throughout the Easter holidays.

Themed activities including live entertainment, historical exhibitions and more will also be taking place throughout the main season.
