WARMINSTER school children were invited to a local Boots opticians to take part in a charity event dressing up as their favourite book character.

On Friday, Year 2 pupils from Minster Primary School took part in a tales and teapots charity event at the Market Place shop to encourage pupils to read more for enjoyment and look after their eyes as part of a pioneering partnership with the National Literacy Trust.

On top of having a cake sale in aid of the trust, which raised £160, the pupils were read books by local children's author David Williams, had their eyes checked, tried on some funny glasses, as well as testing their colour and 3D vision.

Deputy headteacher Anne-Marie Maggs said: "Thank you very much for organising today's event and thank you too to all the staff for being so welcoming. The children had a brilliant time and learned a lot about eye health. They were so excited trying all of the equipment and loved getting their goody bags and prizes at the end."

The children all received goody bags including the two books they had read that day, and a few prizes awarded for dressing up.

"We are so glad that the children enjoyed the event which hopefully highlights the importance of having regular eye checks especially for those children who may not have had one before," said Boots optometrist Alisha Daley Morris.
