A Warminster woman is celebrating being a runner-up in a competition to find the nation’s best farm photos.

Katie-Jane Wreford, from Warminster, sent a snap entitled “The life of a shepherdess” of a farmer checking sheep on a cold January morning as her entry in the nationwide competition.

The competition has revealed some incredible photography depicting modern agriculture and farming life in the UK from Warminster to Cornwall.

Certas Energy, the UK’s leading independent distributor of fuel and lubricants, asked farmers and their families to submit photos of their lives to highlight some of the spectacular scenes they encounter on a day-to-day basis.

From herding sheep at sunrise, to farmers cradling their newest additions, and tractors ploughing a field under a clear blue sky, photographers from across the country submitted hundreds of entries.

The winner was Lola Bellouere from Manchester, who entered with a photograph of her new-born lambs which had arrived this spring. The photo was taken at Oddendale Farm next to her grandmother's house in the Lake District.

From the entries received, Certas Energy also selected six runners-up, Katie-Jane Wreford among them, which truly showcased Britain's most spectacular rural areas, as well as what life on the farm is really like for British farming families.

Other runners-up came from Cornwall, Derbyshire, Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, County Down in Northern Ireland and Nottinghamshire.

Angus Blundell, Director of Marketing at Certas Energy, said: “Certas Energy provides fuel to customers in some of the most rural areas in the UK, including farms. We decided to run this competition to highlight the importance of British agriculture and showcase the beauty of the British countryside in our new online gallery.

“Spring is a busy time for the farming industry and we wanted to run this competition in celebration of all their hard efforts. We were very impressed with all the entries we received and we thought that all of these photographs were magnificent.”
