DOUBLE yellow lines should be extended in parts of Warminster to make access to estates easier for residents, explained councillors at a recent town development committee meeting.

Several issues relating to parking were discussed at the meeting before it was agreed the town council would support extending the double yellow lines from the junction of Portway and Portway Lane to include the junction of Portway Lane with Hollybush Lane.

Residents have said that parking close to the junction makes entry and exit difficult for themselves and visitors, and that the extended double yellows are needed to solve this issue.

Councillors also suggested that the double yellow lines should extend around the bend in Hollybush Lane to its junction with Medlicott House, as parking on the bend narrows the lane to a single car width.

This will now be referred to the Community Area Transport Group to consider.

Another matter which arose was the speed limit in Westbury Road within the town’s boundaries.

A request from the public had been made to lower the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph, however councillors felt that this was not necessary.

Town clerk for Warminster Town Council, Fiona Fox, said: “A metro count had already been undertaken in this area and it did not meet the criteria set by Wiltshire Police for taking any further action.

“The advice from Wiltshire Council traffic engineers was that 40mph was the correct speed for this stretch of road, with its open aspect, street lighting and residential properties on one side only.

“Members agreed not to take any further action.”
