Warminster soldiers killed by roadside bombs in Afghanistan


Two soldiers based in Warminster, who were killed in separate bomb blasts in Afghanistan, are due to be repatriated on Friday.

Corporal Liam Riley, 21 and Lance Corporal Graham Shaw, who turned 27 on Sunday, both of the 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, stationed at Battlesbury Barracks in Woodcock Road, were killed in action on Monday.

Their bodies will be flown back to RAF Lyneham on Friday, following which a parade will take place in Wootton Bassett, where hundreds of people are expected to line the route to pay their respects.

Cpl Liam Riley, from Sheffield, was this week hailed as “a legend” by Prince Harry, who served with him at a military training unit in Canada three years ago.

He died in a bomb blast, while returning fire to save a comrade in Malgir, Helmand Province.

Lance Cpl Shaw, from was killed by a roadside bomb during a base security foot patrol, also in Malgir.

Both soldiers, who were single, were serving in Afghanistan as part of the 1 Coldstream Guards Battle Group.

So very sad,such young lives lost for us leaving behind heartbroken but proud families of these men.I dont see what difference it makes them being single to this story as even if they did not have partners/children they are still someones son/brother/uncle etc,still a life lost and there have been too many,may they rip.
