A BRACE of celebrity chefs were on show at The Angel's summer party in Heytesbury at the weekend.

Ainsley Harriott came along on Saturday night and Antony Worrall Thompson was the guest of honour at the Sunday event, which were both held in a marquee outside The Angel. Assistant manager Lucy Wells, 35, said: "It went really, really well. Ainsley Harriott was getting everyone up on the dance floor and was signing autographs and having his picture taken. He was chatting to everybody and cooking with the chefs on the barbecue."

The event was the second of its kind for The Angel, as last year it played host to Rick Stein and Brian Turner, but Miss Wells thinks this year was an even greater success. She said: "Last year we only had three weeks to organise the event but this year we had much longer and it really showed - people were leaving and saying thank you for such a great time'."

Saturday night attracted more than 200 people and head chef Paul Kinsey, 22, created a special barbecue menu for the guests. He said: "We had tuna with salsa verde, sardines with a bacon dressing, Barnsley chops with fresh mint sauce and Jamaican jerk chicken, which Ainsley Harriott had a hand in cooking.

"He also walked around and chatted - he's quite a ladies' man!" There was also a band and a DJ and many of the guests got up on the dance floor in the marquee.

On Sunday about 100 people arrived, many of whom had also come along the night before and decided to return to see Antony Worrall Thomson and enjoy a hog roast on the barbecue. Worrall Thomson is executive chef at The Angel and creates many of its signature dishes along with Mr Kinsey.

The day was a much more relaxed affair, with a lot of families and children, and the cloudy weather did not matter as the event took place under the marquee. Miss Wells said: "The whole thing went so well, even the staff enjoyed themselves and some of them got up on the dance floor too."
