A NEW community covenant has been put in place in Warminster to encourage closer links between the town and Armed Forces units.
The covenant is linked to the national Armed Forces Covenant, enshrined in law last year after a campaign by MPs, including Andrew Murrison, and military personnel.
The community agreement in Warminster is intended to encourage integration and has been signed by the town council, area board, Warminster Villages Communities Partnership and garrison commander Colonel Peter Merriman.
Warminster councillor Chris March said: “The links between the town and the Armed Forces are the closest they have been in the last 25 years.
“We need to encourage links between our sports clubs.”
Plans include improving children’s facilities near Army housing and Kingdown School using surplus MoD buildings.
