Rain fails to keep the revellers away from Corsley

Wet weather wasn’t enough to keep people away from the Corsley Show on Bank Holiday Monday.

As well as the usual flower and produce displays and competition, the horse and dog shows, vintage car displays, food, drink, and craft stalls, there were a number of new attractions this year.

In the main arena, the Portsmouth Area Volunteer Cadet Corps field gun display team took part in a thrilling competition representing an attack on a simulated enemy.

They used original 7lb muzzle-loading field guns used in the late 19th century at the Battle of Lady-smith in the Boer War.

Also in the main arena, mountain bikers demonstrated impressive tricks, jumps and stunts.

Colin Gordon, with his dogs and runner ducks, also appeared as One Man and His Dog.

Janet Dickens, from Westbury, said: “We come here every year.

“There’s plenty to see and do and when it rains we can just go into the beer tent! As animal lovers we’re looking forward to seeing all the horses and dogs.”

Philip Peterson, from Dilton Marsh, brought his two nephews along.

He said: “The weather’s not the best, but we thought we would come and see what’s going on. We’ve just seen a barn owl which the boys loved.”

Jenny Rutty, Corsley Show secretary, said: “Obviously attendance was down because the weather forecast was bad , but it wasn’t too bad in the morning.

“We did get quite a few people and we’re very grateful to them for coming along.

“We’ll live to fight another day and are planning next year’s event.”
