A new organ at Edington Priory Church is on track to be ready for the Easter services, after the church took delivery of the pipes on Saturday.

Work to build the organ started at the beginning of February after the church raised £437,000 to buy it.

The organ was built by Harrison and Harrison in Durham and replaces the church’s 1905 Henry Jones organ, dismantled last month and sent to the Gustav Adolf Grammar School in Tallinn, Estonia.

It is expected to take four to six weeks for the new organ to be completed and work is currently on schedule. An official unveiling will be held at the Edington Music Festival in August.

Anne Curtis, of the Edington Organ Project, said: “The delivery of the pipes went well and the organ is looking fantastic. It’s not far off being completed.

“It’s now just a case of putting the keyboards, the pedals, the pipes and the electronic computer parts in. The work is all on schedule and the organ should be part of the Easter services.

“The case is lovely and the interesting thing is that while it is not exactly on the same imprint as our old organ, it looks like it has always been there.”
