Westbury couple Mark and Aleksandra Young starred in the hit BBC3 show Don’t Tell the Bride on Tuesday, which sees a bridegroom attempt to organise an entire wedding in just three weeks.

Now in its eighth series, the show gives couples £12,000 to spend on their wedding with the twist that the groom has to organise every aspect without input from his bride-to-be.

The childhood sweethearts, who met at Matravers School when they were teenagers, were kept apart for three weeks while Mr Young organised his West Country farm wedding.

It was the idea of Mrs Young, 24, who teaches at St Barnabas Primary School in Market Lavington, to apply for the show: she originally wanted a Downton Abbey-style wedding at Longleat House.

Mr Young, who works at Wiltshire Caravans, said: “It was my wife’s idea to apply for the show and I was against it at first, but before I knew it we were doing a pre-interview and they were coming down to film.

“I had to pitch them an idea and they liked it. The three weeks were really stressful, but the first week was the toughest as you are starting from scratch and need to get the venues sorted.

“I knew that I wanted the ceremony to be at Bethesda Baptist Church in Trowbridge as she had been going there since she was a kid and I knew it meant a lot to her.”

As well as booking the church in Gloucester Road, the 25-year-old and his two best men, Matthew Smith and Nathaniel Jones, booked Cholderton Charlie’s Farm near Salisbury and a marquee for £4,000 for the wedding reception.

However, it was the all- important wedding dress that caused Mr Young the biggest headache, as he attempted to second guess what sort of dress his bride would want at Westbury shop Not Just Brides.

Mr Young said: “The dress was by far the most stressful part of it. She didn’t like either of the two that I picked out and in the end I said she could choose one with the remaining money.

“I don’t think I did a bad job, but she did look amazing in the one she picked.”

The show also featured Bradford on Avon wedding dress shop Carina Baverstock Couture and Longleat House, as well as Tale of Spice 2 and The Ludlow Arms in Westbury, which were the venues for the hen and stag dos.

Mr Young added: “It was good fun in the end and I think I pulled it off, even if she was a bit unsure about some of my ideas. We all sat around and watched the episode at The Ludlow Arms on Tuesday and had a laugh about it.”

The episode is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
