A post office in Westbury that closed last year is to reopen.
The Ham Post Office in Westbury, which closed in August 2013 after the temporary postmaster left, will return when the shop reopens in the new year.
The date of the reopening has not yet been announced but it will offer post office services during shop opening hours, 6am-8.30pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-8pm on Sunday.
The service will operate from an open-plan till at the counter instead of from a separate screened area.
The closure of The Ham branch coincided with Dilton Marsh Stores shutting down, which also had a post office counter.
Westbury Town councillor David Jenkins, who lives in The Ham said: “It was very unfortunate when the shop and post office closed as it was a great asset to the local community.
“Not only was it a focal point for the area, but combined with the shop it brought many benefits. For some time people have been asking me about it.
“I think the community will be really pleased, not only in the area, but in the wider town.
“It is brilliant news for businesses and people of all ages who use the post office and shop.”
Leighton Barratt, Post Office field change advisor, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Westbury and we are confident this new service will meet the needs of the local community.”
