Plans for a 54-bedroom hotel, spa, swimming pool and function room at the former Thoulstone Park Golf Club in Chapmanslade have moved a step forward, after Wiltshire Council approved an outline application.
The owners of the land, James and Alka Hughes-Hallett, are calling the development Thoulstone Park Eco-Sustainable Community Project. It was formerly a golf course until it ceased operation in 2002.
Chapmanslade Parish Council had objected to the application at a meeting in November because it does not allow for an 18-hole golf course, but officers approved the plans last week.
Mr Hughes-Hallett said: “We’re pleased that Wiltshire Council has granted planning permission so promptly for a hotel, spa, swimming pool and function room at Thoulstone Park.
“This marks a step forward in our plans for the site, forming a key part of our proposals to create development on a site that will be of the highest ecological credentials and that contributes to the economic and community life of Wiltshire.
“This endorsement by Wiltshire Council allows us to progress with some certainty to develop our proposals for the site in more detail.”
