Jack Braddick-Hughes has become a celebrity in the fishing world aged eight, after a video of him catching fish has been seen more than 74,000 times in just two weeks.

The video, which shows Jack fishing with his dad Rob, was uploaded to Facebook on New Year’s Day so his grandad could see it and the footage has become a hit.

Jack, who lives in Warminster, said: “To get so many views was epic. We couldn’t believe it at first. I had to keep checking. It’s great going fishing with my dad. I love it.”

The pupil at Warminster Prep School managed to catch eight perch – including two over a pound in weight – using a fishing style known as the drop shot while fishing at Shearwater Lake near Warminster.

Mr Hughes said: “The first time he ever went fishing he was still a baby so he couldn’t hold the rod, but he was probably about four when he first had a go.

“Since then he has become very competent and has got to a level as good as someone who has been doing it for years and he is only eight.”

The video caught the attention of people within an hour of being posted, attracting more than 5,000 views, netting 17,000 by the end of the day.

“There was a little bit of disbelief as 5,000 people to view anything in an hour is a lot – we only put it online so grandpa could look at it,” said Mr Hughes.

The massive number of views has earned Jack plenty of recognition in the fishing world with anglers from as far as America, Spain, Italy, France and Belgium commenting on the video.

Mr Hughes added: “It is just a hobby that he is doing and it is a good way to get him away from the computer and out in the fresh air.

“His ultimate ambition is to catch a pike.”
