TWO former nursery teachers of Mitzi Steady, the four-year-old girl killed in the Bath tipper truck tragedy, are holding a quiz and raffle night to raise money in her memory and for charity.

Kirsty Galliers and Katie Fisher previously taught Mitzi at a nursery in Bath and are now looking to raise money for the charity Brake, which was chosen by parents Emmajade and Andrew in the wake of their daughter’s death and has already raised more than £21,000.

Mitzi and three men were killed on February 9 on Lansdown Lane in Weston, Bath, after they were struck by a 32-tonne tipper truck which also left Mitzi’s grandmother in a critical condition.

Her mum and dad set up a JustGiving page to raise money for Brake, which works to prevent road casualties, make communities safer, and support families suffering the aftermath of a road crash.

Mrs Galliers, 26, from Westbury, said: “We used to look after Mitzi, we know her family and we went along to her funeral.

“We wanted to help raise some money as it is just so tragic what happened and so we decided to hold this quiz and raffle night.

“She was just a very lovely beautiful little girl and what her mother said about her at her funeral was just amazing. Her parents showed real strength and were so brave after what happened.

“I’m not sure if any of the family will be coming to the event but they know about it and they’ve approved of it which is obviously nice.”

The quiz and raffle evening will take place on April 18 at The White Horse Country Park with tickets costing £7.50, which includes entry to the quiz and an evening meal.

Up to 150 people are expected at the event, with teams of six able to enter the quiz and raffle prizes including a signed Bath Rugby shirt, tickets for a tour of Anfield, Glastonbury tickets, paintballing and karting days out and pub meals up for grabs.

Mrs Galliers' 15-year-old sister-in-law, Hayley Galliers, a pupil at Clarendon, along with some friends are also raising money for Brake next Monday by cycling the 22-miles from Trowbridge to Bath and back on the canal.

Mrs Galliers added: “She didn’t know Mitzi but she heard what we were doing and just wanted to help raise some money, which is great.”
