DILTON Marsh’s Derek Young is on cloud nine after becoming the latest winner of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s (WAA) Superdraw jackpot, scooping £1,463.50.

More than 27,000 people play the WAA’s regular lottery of which 1,552 play the Superdraw.

Money given to the lottery is also spent on the WAA, which costs £2.5million a year to operate and relies entirely on public donations to keep flying.

Mr Young, 74, said: “This is the first time I have won anything in my life. It was quite a shock to be told I had won. I don’t know what I’m going to spend it on yet.

“WAA does such a good job and you never know when you might need it. It costs a lot of money to run and I’m happy to do my small bit to help.”

The retired farm worker’s win comes just two weeks after Salisbury resident Nick Rattue became the first winner of the Superdraw since it launched in June 2014, winning £12,051.50.

Cheryl Johnson, head of fundraising and communications at WAA, said: “Our lottery and Superdraw are attracting new members each week and we are very grateful to everyone who joins.

“Our lotteries give people the chance to win a substantial amount of money whilst knowing that their support is playing a vital role in helping to save lives at the same time.”
