VOTERS have been flocking to polling stations across Wiltshire and the country this morning to cast their vote in the 2015 General Election.

Polling stations opened at 7am and will remain open until 10pm before the votes are counted and results announced tomorrow morning.

Trowbridge Civic Centre, located at Saint Stephen's Place, has already seen a steady stream of people this morning in what is one of the closest elections in decades.

Samantha Williams, who cast her vote this morning, believes it is vital people don't miss the opportunity.

She said: “I think it’s very important that people vote because people have died to ensure we can vote, especially women.

“Personally I would be very sad if I didn’t use my vote or my friends didn’t especially as there are people across the world who can’t vote and don’t have a say.

“It’s important to have a say whether you believe and support what our politicians say.”

Inside the Civic Centre polling station, presiding officer Ashleigh Doyle will be with her team until the polls close tonight and is expecting a busy turnout.

She said: “There has been quite a steady flow of people but the busiest time will be when people pick their children up at 3.30pm or finish work around 5pm.

“People should vote to have a voice and we’ll be here till 10pm with sweets and lots of hot drinks to see us through.”

Another voter up early this morning was Graham Martin, who has voted at every election he’s been able to do so.

He said: “The trouble these days is I don’t think you’re going to get a lot of young people to vote but it is their world now, not our world, and they have to do it for their future.”

Norma Deane was also there to vote and said: “People can’t complain if the wrong party gets in if they didn’t vote.”
