NEARLY 100 runners took part in the 19th Bratton Hilly Run at the weekend, raising money for motor neuron disease.

Taking place on May 9, men and women ran the 11km race from Bratton Jubilee Hall, up and around the Westbury White Horse, and then back into the village.

Pete Slade for Avon Valley Runners won the event with a time of 44:31, followed by fellow Valley Runners David Brigstoke (46:53) and Adam Robbins (47.36).

Misty Summers for Vegan Runners UK won in the women’s category with a time of 56:59, while in the junior one-mile race, youngster Ethan Ross came out on top.

Event organiser Dot Reeves said: “It went very well, we had a lot of positive feedback from people and everyone thought there was a good atmosphere.

“The weather stayed nice I think, I was inside for most of it, although a few said it was quite windy at the top which is what you’d expect but I think everyone enjoyed it.

“We’re wondering if next year we can make it a bumper year and get some sponsorship as it is 20 years since the event has been going.

“The event has got a good community feel and has definitely become part of community life.”

Next year’s race will take place on May 14.
