ZEN Shotokan Karate will be holding a charity event in Westbury this weekend to raise funds for those suffering from disabilities wanting to take part in the sport.

The 100 Kata Challenge will be held on Saturday from 12.45pm-5pm at the Leigh Park Community Centre, with all proceeds going to the Disability Karate Federation.

Founded a year ago by Malcolm King, ZEN Shotokan Karate currently has 35 students with lessons offered in Warminster, Westbury and Beckington.

The 45-year-old from Upton Scudamore, said: “We’re hoping to try and complete the challenge in four hours and will involve doing 100 kata, which is a part of karate and is a set move or drill that last about one to two minutes in length.

“We should hopefully have students from other clubs coming to join us so I’m unsure how many people will be there but I would have thought it would be almost 40.

“One family coming on the day has already raised £400 so I think as group we could crack £1,000.

“The money will go to helping people with disabilities, who might have ADHD or who are autistic, and get them included in karate so any money we raise will benefit them.”

As well as the challenge, which is £5 to enter, money will also be raised through a cake sale, raffle, and a "name the Karate Teddy" competition.
