MATRAVERS School headteacher Dr Simon Riding has praised the “superb results” achieved by students in their A level results, with the school achieving a pass rate of 99.4%.

Dr Riding said: “Matravers School Sixth Form is celebrating another year of superb results, with the majority of students achieving top grades in their A level and BTEC courses.

“The school is very proud to offer a diverse range of courses for its post-16 students, including a number of BTEC courses which once again have been very successful, enabling many students to move onto bigger and better things.

“All A level subjects are performing at or above national averages, with BTEC courses significantly above national figures for the second year running.

“The Extended Project also goes from strength to strength with 80% of students gaining an A*-B for the second year running.”

Shane Roy, a student at the school on Springfield Road, achieved three As in Biology, Chemistry and Maths, and is going to Exeter University to study medicine and hopes to become a doctor.

The 18-year-old said: “I’m over the moon with the results.

“I was quite nervous beforehand, I checked before I came into school online. It was quite nerve-racking but when I found out the results it was a weight off my chest.”

Fellow student 18-year-old Andy Wild got three A*s in Physics, Maths and Further Maths, and is going to Exeter University to study physics.

He said: “I wasn’t expecting to get three A*, it’s a nice surprise.

“I saw the grade boundaries yesterday and they seemed quite high.

“Before I came in I got a text at 8.10am from Exeter University to say that I’d got a place which was a surprise because I’d forgotten they were going to text and I was really happy.

“It was a load off my mind.”

Head of Sixth Form, Ian Browning, said: “We’re really chuffed with our A level results.

“A lot of our students got their preferred grades, and first choice of their university to do some pretty amazing courses.

“As a school were happy with the results, and it was a great year group to teach.”
