A CAT which was moments from death is looking for a new home after being taken in by Dilton Marsh cat centre, Cats in Care.

Ten-year-old feline Colin was about to be put down after his owners could no longer look after him, but a last minute call from the centre ensured he kept all nine lives.

Frank Winfield, a volunteer at the centre, said: “We got there in the nick of time to save him.

“Colin’s previous owner has a medical condition and so, through no fault of his own, he was taken into Cats in Care; he now needs to be placed with someone who has a good understanding of feline behaviour.

“His new owner needs to be tolerant, patient and able to provide him with the time and space that will be required to bring out the best in him.

“He’s an affectionate cat and very attractive and he just needs the right person to come along and he will make a nice pet.

“He needs to live with someone who has no other pets or young children in the home and who has access to a reasonable-sized garden.

“He’s an "outside cat" and therefore cannot be re-homed in a flat or in a confined environment.”

Founded in 1959 by animal-lover Claire Bremner at her home in Dilton Marsh, the centre has been primarily used as a sanctuary for older cats whose owners have passed away.

And staff at the centre are keen to see Colin, who has been there for nearly six months, find a new home.

Mr Winfield added: “We have a room at the centre which is used to isolate cats that are having problems and can’t mix with other cats, which is where Colin is but we also use it to introduce cats into the centre.

“It means though that until we find a home for Colin we can’t take any more cats in.”
