VILLAGERS in Erlestoke are holding an event in a bid to raise money to save their pub, The George and Dragon.
The event, called Pop Up Pub in the Park, will be taking place on Saturday and will be offering a mix of a barbecue, tea and cakes, and beer and wine. All the money made from the day will be going towards the target that has been set so the villagers can buy the pub and keep it open, instead of seeing it closed down.
Parish council chairman Stan Jonik said: “We are looking for an investor, with a return on investment, so we can keep our pub. We are also looking for a tenant to help run the pub.
"We have lost our village hall and our shop and now our pub is in the firing line. It is important to keep the pub as it means a lot to the village, this is definitely a community thing.
“We need to raise £150,000 to keep it, we are on the way to the target but we still need investors to help with this project. So far we have had a good response."
The Pop Up Pub in the Park runs between 3 and 7pm. The park is situated adjacent to the church, where there is car parking.
