A WESTBURY farmer has taken to Facebook to voice his frustration after dogs killed several of his sheep – and has now threatened to shoot any dogs that aren’t under control when on his land at Penleigh Farm.

Owen Singer took to Facebook group Spotted Westbury yesterday to warn dog owners after the death of four of his sheep in the past two weeks.

His post, which has received dozens of comments and hundreds of likes, read: “Attention all dog owners. As a result of a very busy Christmas and New Year in which we lost four ewes to dog attacks.

“One with its jaw torn off, one with its back legs and udder torn open and one drowned as it was driven into the river by a chasing dog and one through stress.

“I have made the decision that the very lax attitude to dog walking on Penleigh Farm has come to an end.

“I am asking for people to stay on the footpaths with dogs on the lead at all times, regardless of whether there are any sheep in the field.

“On most occasions of dog attack, it's the dog ahead of its owner seeing the sheep first and going into the field before the owner gets there.

“Generally I'm told that "it's not doing anything, it's just playing".

“The sheep don't know that and the lamb foetuses detaching inside them getting ready to abort don't know that either.

“These sheep are hopefully pregnant, we farm as a business, it's bloody hard work, the farm is not for your enjoyment and a dog lavatory.

“So in future all walkers will be asked to stay on the footpath and bridle way with dogs on the lead.

“Free roaming across the fields in which ever direction you want will cease, and IF YOUR DOG IS NOT ON ITS LEAD IT WILL BE SHOT.

“I have never had to do this and am disgusted that it has come to this. The action of a few ignorant, thoughtless ass holes ruin it for everyone. Happy New Year Westbury.”
