POPULAR Scottish duo The Proclaimers will headline this year's Village Pump Festival which organisers anticipate to be the most popular to date.

The annual event will be held on July 22-24 at the White Horse Country Park in Westbury where it has taken place for four years.

Instantly recognisable for their hit I'm Going To Be/500 Miles, The Proclaimers previously played to Wiltshire audiences in 2013 at the family-friendly festival.

The headliners for the other two nights include Neville Staple Band (ex the specials) along with Breabach.

The Village Pump festival has been at different venues since 1974 and it is run entirely by unpaid volunteers - something which the festival's director believes makes the event such a success.

"It is knowing that what we're doing is so highly regarded that makes the unpaid volunteer team behind the festival so keen," John Alderslade said.

"We've again managed to get some of the best acts in folk, roots and acoustic music from all over the UK and beyond.

"From early Friday evening to last thing Sunday night your weekend ticket enables you to see our great range of performers for around 30 plus hours across three stages.

"If you've been before, you'll understand why we say this is the best little fest in the west. If you haven't, why not give it try and see if you agree."

The pop duo will also be joined by acts such as Phillip Henry, Hannah Martin, Martin Simpson, Don Flemons, The Phil Beer Band, O'Hooley and Tidow.

Across the three-day festival, a whole host of other entertainment will such as family games and activities will make the event suitable for all ages.

It also provides a platform for performers from local folk clubs, and for festival goers in open mics, sessions, workshops and the Village Pump Choir.

Mr Alderslade added: "Several dance sides will be performing over the weekend and there will be two ceilidhs with top bands. Workshops, sessions, open mics, yoga, Tai chi, Nia and the Village Pump choir will give opportunities for anyone who wants to do more than just watch. And there will be a full family programme, making the Pump a great weekend for Pumpers of all ages."
